Hello from Passion for Italy Travel
Hi I am back to doing my podcasts. These last two years we have been so busy servicing our clients that I simply did not have time in the working week. It does take a lot of time to do a podcast for those of you who don’t know. Our podcast is information about Italy based on my experiences on travelling to Italy for over 30 years. I am passionate about Italy and wish to share it with all.
Did you know that this year 2025 is the Jubilee year for the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican in Rome. It is held every four years and there will be many Catholic pilgrims descending on Rome throughout the year. So the answer for this is to book early with Passion for Italy to get the best prices for Rome hotels and the Rome Tours as it is going to be a little bit hectic in Rome. I know Rome very well, having visited every year for over 30 years. We only book hotels in the center where you can walk to all the famous sites. My most favourite area is the Spanish Steps.
Did you know that the Romans were converted to christianity in the 4th C AD due to the Emperor Constantine. So the Catholic Church has had nearly 2000 years to gain precious cargo now exhibited in the amazing Vatican Museum which is one of the best in the world let alone the incredible “Last Judgement” – the fresco painted on the ceiling and west wall of the Sistine Chapel painted by Michaelangelo which took four years to complete. The Sistine Chapel is the place where all the Cardinals meet to form the conclave to elect a new pope. By the way there is a new movie out The Conclave about this staring Stanley Tucci and Ralphn Fiennes.
I had the priviledge of having a private tour at night after the museum closed at night many years ago now and I was the only one there just me and my private guide and Michelangelo!! I was the only person in the Sistine Chapel. I had Michelangelo all to myself and it was so incredible I wanted to fall on the floor and stay there to spend the night gazing up at that magnificent ceiling. There was no one else and it was one of the highlights of my life indeed.
You can see the beautiful video of the Vatican Museum on their official website.
If 2025 is the only time you will be in Rome then of course you have to see the museum even though it is going to be jam packed. So book as soon as possible There are group tours available in the morning and afternoon and private tours of course and a night private tour but now of course there are many wealthy people on night tour as it is now very expensive due to the demand. How things have changed in these last few years. The retired baby boomers have arrived in tourism.
But there is also so many other great things to do and see in Rome. I will feature these on my next blog. This podcast is for those who are going to Rome in 2025 and the reason is please book early, in fact very early otherwise you will miss out on the incredible Vatican Museum.
