“It is impossible to speak of the landscape” wrote Sigmund Freud from Liguria in 1905, ‘without being a poet or quoting one”. Our Ligurian towns featured on the Italian Riviera, Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino are the places for sun, beach and La Bella Figura, that is posing along side the rich and famous.
Passion for Italy Travel features Rapallo for less expensive apartments for a lengthy stay and the wonderful Cinque Terre, the land of the five quaint fishing villages and for those wishing to do treking and walking along magnificent cliff edges with spectacular views. Ligurian wine is the best companion to the delicious seafood offered along the coastline.
Pesto comes from Liguria so make sure you taste it here as well as Focaccia – buy it freshly baked in the mornings from the local bakery.
The Region of Liguria’s geographical position in Italy, mild climate and pleasant landscapes have made it a successful attraction for national and international seaside tourism since the middle of last century. Liguria is made up of four provinces: Province of Genova, Province of Imperia, Province of La Spezia and the Province of Savona.
All along the coast, from Ventimiglia to Lerici, there are small holiday resorts which, though themselves endowed with works of art, have only developed alongside the famous holiday resorts: Bordighera, Sanremo, Alassio, Finale Ligure, Nervi, Santa Margherita, and Rapallo.
The authentic character of the region can still be found in the quiet corners of certain seaside villages or in the rare coves still unaltered by the hands of man. In the Cinque Terre, for instance, a group of picturesque fishing villages clinging to a rocky coastline, cars are banned.
The beautiful inland area, bypassed by the tourist hordes, is surprisingly and unexpectedly fascinating and deserves greater attention. Behind Sanremo alternative itineraries touch the medieval villages of Taggia and Triora; Pigna with its characteristic chibi (alleys) surrounded by olive groves; Apricale, a medieval village magnificently facing south; Dolceacqua, with the Doria castle and vineyards.
Further north, on the slopes of Mount Saccarello (2,200 m.) lies Monesi, a winter sports resort.

Milano is the capital of Lombardy and is famous as being the city of design in furniture and of course fashion. It is the city of the catwalks and the great centre of the fashion world of Europe. If you are serious about shopping and fashion designers, you have to go to Milan.
Milano is also the centre of the huge fiere/ trade fairs– the big expositions of furniture and design products as well as the economic centre of industry in Italy. If you love design go visit the Design Museums in Milan. Milan is without a word – very trendy and chic! If you love coolness – this is the place to be
Fabrics and textiles are also here with artisans designing fabrics still in the old fashioned way as the northern Lakes district was the centre of the silk industry in the past. In the town of Como, fine silk is still produced, to be used in exquisite designs and expensive labels. Visit the silk museum to see the ancient tools that were used.
We also feature the beautiful Lake district – Lake Maggiore and Lake Como, areas of magnificent scenery with mountains rising straight up from the lakes. It is wonderful to drive around , or take the ferries across, with lovely little villages such as Bellagio and Cernobbio set on the shores of the lakes. Cremona the home of the violin and Mantova are also jewels as are the art cities of Ferrara and Ravenna.
