On the Prosecco hills in the Veneto region of Italy, the time of the grape harvest is coming. As the territory is hilly and because of the slope of the vineyards, the grape harvest is still done by hand and with old manual systems.
The Prosecco Wine Region in this season is wonderful to visit to see and for the senses … the scent of the mature grapes and of following work carried out in the cellars pervades the air.
Each season on the hills has its fascination, but the scent of ripe grapes that you can experience in September is my favorite one. It reminds me of the grape harvest with my family, a unique time where also the children and the neighbors were giving their contribution and that perfume for days was pervading the air and the house.
September and October are ideal months to visit the cellars, to see how the grape harvest is done , the distilling process in the cellars and the tasting of the Prosecco wine of the previous seasons.
In this period usually it is sunny and mild weather, the perfect time to take a walk through the vineyards and to have lunch in a unusual tavern with no innkeeper, a lovely house into the Prosecco hills where you can eat the typical cheese, salami and bread and drink the wine of the area, serving it alone. One leaves the money that you wish to pay in a box, as the owner is not there and there is no price-list.
It is all about trust. How lovely and how rare these days!!
All around there are charming villages such as Asolo and Cison di Valmareno, you can visit the temple and great sculptures of Canova, the castles, and many others places, full of history, in which there is no lack of legends about Dames and Castellans….but this is another story..”
