One of my favourite Italian singers died in 2012 – Lucio Dalla. I have many of his cds and I was very sad to hear of his passing. Such a passionate and emotional singer. Why did I not go to his concert in Rome two years before! We never know when one of us is going to go so we should always make the most of an opportunity when it presents.
As a tribute to Lucio Dalla have a look at this video of him below filmed in the Caruso room of our Passion for Italy’s beautiful Hotel in Sorrento.
Our Luxury hotel in Sorrento 380 is a beautiful and grand five star hotel with a lot of history. The Duchess of Windsor stayed here as well as many other kings and queens and famous writers and travellers. Lucio wrote the song while staying in the hotel Caruso room as Sorrento is the home town of the great Caruso one of Italy’s great opera singers.
In the video he is playing the piano on the spectacular terrace of the hotel with incredible views out over the gulf of Napoli and Vesuvious and also at the famous theatre in Sorrento town where they have a caberet of all the famous Neopolitan songs.
When in Sorrento if you love Caruso also go to the Caruso restaurant in town. It is a museum in homage to Caruso with photos all over the walls as well as great food.
