Small Group Walking Tour of Florence with average 4-14 people. Our walking tour combines lecture-style input with amusing anecdotes and interesting insights to offer an enjoyable and relaxed approach to the city.
As soon as you arrive in Florence it doesn’t take long to realise that you have stepped into the greatest era in world history: the Renaissance. Skip the line tickets, walk straight into the Accademia where you’ll enjoy an in-depth discussion on Michelangelo’s David and other works by the genius of the Renaissance.
Any visitor to Florence will want to see the statue of David, symbol of the Florentine Renaissance, and all those who do, are astounded by the “divine” David’s anatomical beauty. We broaden our study of Michelangelo’s masterpieces and follow his career in Florence, under the Medici family, and his time in Rome, where he endured a difficult relationship with Pope Julius II, by taking in his significant unfinished works, the ”Prisoners” and the touching “Pietà”. We focus on Michelangelo’s technique which changed the approach of many artists towards their craft forever.
We will admire the beautiful Cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, better known as the Duomo. The guided tour then continues with the Baptistery, one of the city’s most ancient religious buildings; the beauty of its doors moved Michelangelo to call them “the Gates of Paradise”! Ghiberti, the artist who created the doors, spent much of his life casting the doors in bronze and then gilding them.
We will walk you through the beauty of the city, moving along the oldest medieval streets of the city centre, lined up with towers. We reach Piazza Signoria, the political heart of the city, with its ancient buildings and famous statues. The square hasn’t changed, since the Medici period, and there you will discover one of the most astonishing perspectives, the view of the Uffizi Gallery. We will make reservations to skip the lines!
